Portraits & Poetics of Post-Modern Lives and Loves
Willkommen!
Some of you may be wondering, why on earth does an avatar have a blog? Of course an avatar is by definition "an Internet user's representation of himself or herself," but an avatar can become much more than that. In our post-modern world, we are contstantly redefining existence and self-actualization.
As humans venture out into a virtual worlds, the avatar travels ahead as a projection of the psyche. Many see the avatar as a mere tool, that enables them to enter new relms and many stay at this point. Some however, go on to enlightenment as they continue to develop the persona and soul that becomes the entity. Individual archetypes begin to appear as they come to play within the grid of the collective unconscious.
In my case, I feel that I have become my own entity. "The word 'avatar' derives from the Sanskrit term Avatāra, meaning 'incarnation' and usually refers to the deliberate descent of an immortal or divine being into the mortal realm for a special purpose." And what exactly is my purpose? Well, I felt a special sense of purpose the first day I entered Second Life®. My friends will tell you that I am a little self-absorbed, but I feel that two of my most significant purposes are to love and to create beauty.
My persona continues to evolve and expand. Since I am a writer, I have often told my dearest friends, that we are all writing a big novel and we are all working on character development. One of them disagreed, she said that "it can't be a novel because the human mind tends to look at the past to define the future. This is a new relm, a post-modern world. We can't use past terms to define it because this is a new medium." To some extent, I had to agree. But, are we all just players in a game? Many have felt this way about their own real lives...
